
Plastics Industry
LUH supplies the plastics industry with graphite and mica – mineral additives that provide plastics with flame retardancy, electrical and thermal conductivity, or durability. Our raw materials are in demand wherever plastics do not naturally have these properties.
Flame retardant plastic housings
Expandable graphite protects plastic housings, e.g. for power supplies, chargers and control cabinets, reliably and halogen-free from ignition and also meets the requirements of the UL 94 test standard.
Thermally conductive electronic components
As a thermal conductivity additive, graphite avoids thermal hot spots and enables efficient thermal management, e.g. in cooling-related plastic components in computers, servers and chargers.
Electrically conductive plastic components
Graphite makes plastic components and coatings electrically conductive and thus protects, for example, fuel filler caps for electric vehicles from electrostatic charge build-up and electromagnetic interference.
Corrosion-resistant bipolar plates
Graphite-based bipolar plates are considerably lighter than metal versions, more resistant to acids and aggressive media and, when combined with plastics, can be flexibly shaped.
Low-friction plastic components
As a lubricant, graphite reduces friction and wear in plastic components thanks to its layered structure and, due to its chemical stability, also enables maintenance-free lubrication.
Damping plastic panelling
Mica as an additive in plastic panelling can dampen vibrations, e.g. in machine cladding or vehicle parts, reducing unwanted droning and structure-borne noise.
Natural graphite
Our natural graphite is suitable for use in thermal management, conductivity or lubricant applications. At the same time, it is a sustainable and high-performance alternative to synthetic graphite.
Expandable graphite
Our REACH-compliant expandable graphite achieves natural flame retardancy thanks to its intumescent layer and is a genuine alternative to chemical or brominated flame retardants.
Mica
Our muscovite mica offers high chemical and thermal resistance as well as outstanding electrical insulation, all without chemical modification as a natural mineral.
